Goodmans Intercoms

Well, these little horrors will cost you about £50:00 each from your local Argos store, if you pay much more than that, then you have been diddled. However, the plot is not lost.

We have been trying these for a few months now, and they have not been too bad! Do not expect to transmit with them, due to the low power and battery life, you might just as well use some tin cans and a piece of string.

The good point is that they DO receive if the instructor radio is of good quality, and of course, will transmit on the same frequency. The Goodmans Intercoms operate on the 446mhz frequencies, and have a number of channels to choose from, so you can move about to avoid other users. They come with rechargeable battery packs and chargers.

I have tested these as student receivers, using an Icom multichannel set as the tranceiver, and an Autocom set up, I have had some very favourable results, even at the legal speed limits. Of course, the Autocom system will cost you, so will the Icom transceiver, but once this is set up on the instructors machine, the cost efectiveness begins to pay off.

You may think it is expensive, well it is to start off with, but it pays dividends in the end. If you want to run your students on cheap radio set ups, then expect them to complain! But used as I have used these Goodmans, you may be pleasantly suprised, and save money in the long run
