Ear Defenders

For some time now, I have been using Ear Defenders, or Ear Plugs as you may know them better, which have been made to fit. They are designed to cut down noises which are passed through the helmet, and to enhance others, as well as protect your hearing from becoming damaged of course.

They start life as a mould. A type of plasticine is placed in each ear and left to harden a little so that they become shaped to your individual ear section. The mould is then sent off and after approximately 3 weeks, the finished article is returned. You then go along for a fitting, and any discomforts are sorted out for you before you leave. It really is as simple as that. Cost is £14 pounds per pair, and they will last you for years if you look after them.

Why pay for those grubby old foam plugs that last once!

Once you get used to wearing the plugs, there is no discomfort. Wind noise in the helmet is reduced thus cutting down the chance of ear problems in years to come. I have spoken to the people at the Hospital that supply the plugs, and their response is that they welcome motorcyclists. They would rather supply plugs at this price than have to operate on the ear system at a later date. Makes sense, and all for motorcyclists!
